less 是一个常见的形容词后缀,“无…的” “不能…的”
useless无用的, careless粗心的 meaningless无心的 thankless 不领情的

我想哄生病的孩子开心。
sick 生病的,在句中作定语,作表语时或补语时,还可以表示“呕吐的;
恶心的”。
He is very sick他病得很重,feel sick 想吐。
ill, 有病的,作表语,不作定语。
fall /feel ill作定语时,是“坏的,恶劣的”意思。
have ill luck, 不幸运的。 ill weather, 坏天气。

need to do sth,表示需要做某事(通常主语是人)
need doing sth,表示某事需要做,含有被动意味,相当于need to be done.
